In January and February of 2024, GTT’s Security Operations Center along with Corero’s Advanced Research Team have jointly recorded a significant surge in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on GTT DDoS Mitigation customers. This is in line with Corero’s January 2024 DDoS forecast which predicted a very active DDoS attack year.
DDoS attacks have grown in frequency by 4.7X comparing the last two months of 2023 and the first two months of 2024.
Not only has there been an increase in DDoS attacks, GTT and Corero have found that there has been an increase in the magnitude of attacks. This means that the size of DDoS attacks have increased 6.1X increase in the first two months of 2024 compared to the last two months of 2023 for attacks greater than 100Gbps.
In order to proactively protect against these and other cyber threats, robust cybersecurity measures are critical. Due to the increasing DDoS activity, GTT with its partnership with Corero continue to jointly invest in their DDoS scrubbing centers deployed around the globe by recently increasing their capacity to 2 Tbps. The team will continue to invest and expect to add another 1 Tbps of additional scrubbing capacity to keep up with the increased activity.
Managed DDoS Mitigation service can no longer be considered a luxury “insurance” purchase as the sophistication of attacks are evolving and becoming ever more complex. GTT’s Managed DDoS Mitigation service provides inline cybersecurity against these attacks providing protection while maintaining network performance.
